Show Me Yours and Somebody Else’s

Posted on 09/24/2012 at 12:33pm

Hah, bet you thought I was going to say “Show me yours and I’ll show you mine,” didn’t you? Nope. Actually, I was just introduced to something called Pimp and Promote at Writers in the Storm Blog and the simple concept set me afire!

Today this is your chance you brag about something writing related here, on my blog. Your blog? Your new book? A speaking engagement? What have you done you’re proud of? Again, must be about your writing!

But the catch is this . . . you have to promote someone else, too! A blog, new release, new author, favorite author, a magazine feature . . . give someone a hand and promote him, too.

Let’s call it . . .  PUSH and PRAISE.

PUSH meaning you’re pushing your own efforts

PRAISE meaning, duh, you’re praising someone else’s.

For instance:

PUSH – I have several online guest opportunities this week.

  • One at Write Now! Mastermind on Wed, September 26 at Noon Central / 1PM Eastern.
  • The other is on Friday, September 28, at a women’s blog called FriendfortheRide.
  • And  yet another blog post at Romance University on Friday, September 28 on Love and the Crime Fiction Sleuth (had a lot of fun with this one).

PRAISE - I follow a quaint yet intelligent blog called Bluestocking Ball. Elizabeth Boyce is a new author, and her posts are so smart! She’s a historical romance author with three books under contract with Crimson Romance. She’s just getting off the ground. Isn’t her cover gorgeous?

So, tell us your PUSH & PRAISE for this week!

What a neat idea, Hope. Thanks for letting us share.

I’m all about Refreshing Spirits and Nourishing Souls and have a brand new poem posted on my blog right now. I’m also especially excited to have an article appearing in the Sept/Oct issue of Prayer Connect in their Tips and Tools department.

My friend Elaine Olsen has just released a new book called Beyond Cancer’s Scars. Check it out at http://www.peaceforthejourney.com/

    Thanks again, Hope!

I love it! Push and Praise sounds much more genteel than Pimp and Promote. :-)

Thanks for the shout out, and we’re delighted to have you visit Writers In the Storm.

    Happy writing!

Great idea for a post, Hope! For my push, I’ll mention my recent article in The Writer magazine, an essay on having my debut novel produced as an audio book. It was a tough piece to write, and I’m proud of how it turned out. http://www.writermag.com/en/The%20Magazine/Current%20Issue.aspx

My praise goes to author Erika Robuck and the release this month of her novel Hemingway’s Girl. Erika successfully self-published her first novel, and her latest release from NAL/Penguin is the first in a two-book deal she landed with the traditional publisher. She’s a talented writer and a great supporter of authors, readers and literature. Check out her website http://www.erikarobuck.com/ and follow her on Twitter https://twitter.com/ErikaRobuck.

    • Jessica! Congrats on the article. I read it, and it was very nice. And I WANT to read Hemingway’s Girl. Sounds very intriguing in the reviews and blog posts. Thanks!

My PRAISE: Margot Livesey’s most recent novel, The Flight of Gemma Hardy. What a wonderful book! If you loved Jane Eyre, read this.

Hope, I love this idea. Thanks for sharing it.

For my push…this past weekend I presented a workshop at the Mother Earth News Fair in PA entitled Homeschooling on the Homestead. I did it to promote my series of e-books called Lessons from the Homestead. They take common areas of farm life and turn them into curriculum for homeschoolers or involved parents. You can see them at http://lessonsfromthehomestead.com/e-books/5-book-set-vol-1/

For my praise…my friend Lisa Mikitarian published a book of short stories (the first book with DemmeHouse)last year called Her Safari. It is a collection of stories about the figurative and literal journeys women take through life. You can read about Lisa at www.lisamikitarian.com and you can check out her book at http://www.demmehouse.com/Bookstore.html

I hope it’s not too late to join in? This is a lovely idea.
PUSH: My dog, Murphy, is blogging about our life in Rome at http://doggedlyinrome.wordpress.com. I never knew I had an inner comic!
My PRAISE is for Tien Chiu who is blogging her book, “Creating Craft: A Guide to Designing Original Pieces” at www.creatingcraft.com. Three times a week she posts a new chapter of the book on her blog, and it’s working really well. Besides which, her own craft work is spectacular!
    Thanks!

I love this idea; and I know I’m late. The blog I want to share is Vicki Winslow’s blog at vickiwinslow.wordpress.com.

When I first started blogging, she had shared a Ray Bradbury quote that was about letting the world burn through you like a prism, and throwing that light, white hot, on paper. She said it was from “Zen in the Art of Writing.” He had died the day before. I wrote in a comment that I was trying to order the book because I loved the quote, but that they kept selling out.

She said that if I couldn’t find it, she would send it to me. Yeah. My first comment on her blog, and she was offering to send me mail. Since then, the book has been influencing me daily and has lead to the purchase of others about writing.

So, her blog is one that I adore because she showed me my first cyber-version of true generosity and compassion.

My blog is enjoylifeforonce@wordpress.com and it’s still evolving. :)

    • Yes, reaching back and helping another writer can endear you forever with her. Sounds like Vicki had her head on straight. Sounds like a nice lady.

Great idea, Hope. My push is for my first novel, Love of My Lives, a story about reincarnation, romance and murder. My praise is for Reading to Jane by Carole Marshall, a story about three generations dealing with loss in their own ways. Btw, Hope, I am reading LowCountry Bribe, and when I finish it, I promise to review it. I love it. I’m just so busy writing and promoting, or is that promoting and writing. Not sure anymore. I appreciate all you do. Truly.

  12. Good morning, Hope.

It’s my first visit to your site and as I’m only an aspiring author, I have nothing to push. Nor do I have anything to praise today, but I would like to say I love Eleanor’s idea of using Murphy to write about her experiences in Rome.
In my business (helping people build and content business blogs) I’m always encouraging clients to think differently about how they present their information, but it’s so difficult to get them to think outside the box. My most recent client was a Ballista. Thankfully he understood the value of being different by talking about coffee from the perspective of the bean – its life story, if you like. So Eleanor’s approach using Murphy resonates with me.
May that count as a praise?
If so, I’ve just thought of my push – its my Austrian Alpine Holidays Blog (or Ahh! for how I think about it!)www.austrianalpineholidaysblog.com.

    Kind regards,
    L

    • Linda – I knew you could find a push, and I bet you could find a praise if you thought about it. But thanks for commenting! That’s a praise in itself for you to take the time to leave a note. Thanks.

Like Linda, I am also an aspiring writer – my goal is to finish one of the novels I have underway by next spring.

I have been inspired by my friend, writer Shelle Sumners, whose debut novel, GRACE GROWS, will be released Oct. 30 by St. Martin’s. GRACE GROWS is touching, funny, and full of great characters. And it has a soundtrack by Lee Morgan! Check out the book and links to the original songs penned for use by the book’s singer/songwriter hero at www.gracegrows.com.

I’d like to recommend triond.com, they do not offer much exposure, but have a killer program on which to write. I was a Huffington Post Blogger for the last five years or so, until I was well and truly divorced from AOL, after the purchase. I spent twenty years of more in publishing as a newspaper and magazine owner/publisher, and just have to type fast or my fingers will fall off! Today is my birthday, and as a present, I found this site. very happy to be here and anxious to look it over. happy pecking! rw sanders, and no i don’t think i am ee cummings lol
